Yankees news: Anthony Volpe’s grand slam sets postseason record

MLB | Do-Hyoung Park: Anthony Volpe’s Game 4 grand slam was more than the hit that kept the Yankees alive for another day. It was also the Yankees’ first World Series slam since Tino Martinez’s electrifying Game 1 bomb in the 1998 World Series, as well as the sixth grand slam of the 2024 playoffs, a postseason record. Of course, the latest was Freddie Freeman, who broke the Yankees’ back in Game 1, so Volpe’s slam also erased some bad taste from the fandom’s collective mouth.

WFAN | Ryan Chichester: If nothing else, the Yankees’ Game 4 win gave us all a chance to dream a little. As Ryan notes, the Yanks have Gerrit Cole lined up for Game 5, and while anything can happen in an elimination game, it’s not hard to imagine the ace sending this series back to LA for a Game 6 on Friday night. And if Carlos Rodón can limit dingers to what he did earlier in the playoffs, you never know what might happen next!

ABC News | Katie Kindelan and Chris Cirillo: Seventy-six years ago, eight-year-old Joe Baal went to his first Yankees game. Last night his daughter Jaymie won Top Daughter by surprising the now 84-year-old Joe with tickets to his first ever World Series game. Baal, who had long since retired as a firefighter and traveled to Florida, returned to New York in the wake of 9/11 to help the city’s recovery. He spent the next nearly two decades involved with the FDNY. Fantastic story.

New York Post | Michael Blinn: Game 4 didn’t start well for the Yankees or their fans. After trailing in the top of the first, Gleyber Torres lofted a ball down the right field line into foul territory leading from home half. A few fans basically decided to attack Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts, with one holding Betts’ wrist while the other opened the outfielder’s glove and ripped the ball out. Torres was ejected for fan interference and our two geniuses were escorted out of Yankee Stadium. Womp Womp.
