When will there be relief for consumers, asks Cong after OMC’s increase in commission for petrol pump dealers

New Delhi, Oct 30 (IANS) The Congress party on Wednesday described the increase in commission to petrol pump dealers as mere ‘eyewash’ and asked when the benefits of low fuel prices will be passed on to consumers and common man.

Taking to X, Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala said the Narendra Modi government has been in power for the past ten years after earning huge revenue from crude oil and petroleum products, but consumers continue to remain burdened by high fuel prices.

“Indian Crude Oil Basket as on 28.10.2024 stands at $72.04 per barrel. Modi government has earned more than Rs 31.75 lakh crore from central tax/duties on crude oil and petroleum products. When will relief come for consumers in the form of reduction in petrol-diesel prices?,” he asked.

Meanwhile, the announcement of hike in commission to petrol pump dealers by the oil marketing companies (OMCs) is likely to have an impact on petrol and diesel prices in many states. These consumers, especially in remote and remote areas, are likely to benefit greatly from this.

Reports suggest that petrol and diesel prices are likely to come down in states like Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Himachal Pradesh due to alleged rationalization of inter-state freight.

Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri welcomed the revision in dealer margins, describing it as a Dhanteras gift to the public.

“The requirement that stood for 7 years has been fulfilled. A major decision by oil companies to rationalize interstate goods movement will benefit consumers in remote locations far from oil marketing companies’ petrol and diesel depots,” wrote EU minister X.

He further pointed out that the increase in dealer commission will improve service to approximately 7 crore citizens who visit fuel outlets every day.

He further stated that the fulfillment of this requirement will bring joy and happiness in the lives of petrol pump dealers and more than 10 lakh employees working at more than 83,000 petrol pumps across the country.
