We only ‘crossed the line’ once in the Yankees fan interference drama

Yankees fan Austin Capobianco opened up about his night of infamy in an interview with Barstool Sports on Wednesday night, saying this was a moment that was in the making.

Capobianco was ejected from Game 5 of the World Series after comically attempting to tangle with Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts on a pop-out in foul territory Tuesday night.

Capobianco said his friend, who grew up in Connecticut and now lives in Nashville, came and joined him for the game and that they always had a pact to mess with an opponent if the opportunity arose in a big moment .

Capobianco said he has had season tickets to those first-row seats on the right field line and has been to every home playoff game since 2011.

“We talked about it. If we’re on the field, we eliminate our fans from being stupid and causing disruptions that (cost the Yankees one out when they’re in the field),” Capobianco said on “Barstool Rundown.”

“In that situation, ideally we would have hit the ball while it was in the air – we don’t reach into the box. We would have if it came down to it, but that ball was on the wall. It was basically in my mouth , and I say, ‘I can’t help but do something right now.’

He explained his logic in trying to rip the ball out of Betts’ lute.

“It was pretty safe. Once you put your hand on the glove, you’re going to get booted no matter what. So I might as well just f-king rip the thing out,” Capobianco said.

“The best part was when (my friend) just grabbed his arm. It was f-king funny in the video.”

Eventually, Capobianco acknowledged that his friend “crossed the line” by grabbing Betts’ arm.

Capobianco emphasized that there was “no racial slur” said to Betts during the incident.

The Bombers fan said he knew about the Yankees safety because “peasant(s)” sitting behind him have often complained that he stood up in front of them and cheered during games.

Capobianco went to Billy’s near Yankee Stadium after the ejection and said he spent the rest of the night “smashing drinks.”

The Yankees announced Wednesday that Capobianco’s tickets were reallocated to a pediatric cancer patient and his family.
