World Series fans ejected for curious ball from Betts’ glove

NEW YORK — Two fans at Yankee Stadium were ejected from Game 4 of the game World Series after grabbing a foul ball out of the glove of Los Angeles Dodgers right fielder Mookie Betts on Tuesday night.

A spokesman for the league said Athletics that the fan who pulled the ball from Betts’ glove and the man sitting next to him were ejected after the incident.

Betts jumped the wall in foul territory and caught Gleyber Torres’ popup at first, but a front-row fan wearing a gray Yankees road jersey grabbed Betts’ glove with both hands and pulled the ball out. Torres was immediately called out for fan interference.

The Yankees went on to win the game 11-4 to force a Game 5, which will be played at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night. The Dodgers lead the series 3-1.

It was the second time Torres had a game affected by fan interference in this World Series. With two outs in the ninth inning of Game 1 at Dodger Stadium, Torres hit a fly ball to left field and a fan reached over and caught the ball. Torres was awarded a double.

The Dodgers, one win away from their second title in five years, held a 2-0 lead on Freddie Freeman’s two-run homer in the top of the first off Luis Gil at the time of the incident.
