Two workers at a nuclear submarine yard have been taken to hospital after a fire broke out at the site in the early hours of the morning.

Shocking footage showed smoke billowing from BAE Systems in Barrow, which is currently building a £1.6bn submarine for the Royal Navy.

Emergency services moved to the scene just before 1 o’clock today following reports of the fire.

BAE Systems said two workers suffered smoke inhalation and were treated in hospital.

It is unclear what is burning at the site, which has made all but three of Britain’s nuclear submarines.
