ForbesToday’s ‘Wordle’ #1228 Hints, Clues and Answer for Tuesday, October 29

How time flies when you’re having fun. Or when you’re not having fun! Time just seems to fly and fly with no regard for us mere mortals. We’re just a day away from Halloween. I have settled on a costume: The Dude from The Big Lebowski. I even found the exact outfit he was wearing so I bought that instead of a costume. The right sweater, the pajama pants, the sunglasses. It’s the kind of thing you can wear anytime. It’s funny, the guy was such a bum, but he wore nice designer clothes and had expensive shades. Go figure.

It’s Wordle Wednesday, so here’s your riddle:

I can start a war or end one. I can give you the strength of heroes or leave you powerless. I can be caught with a look, but no force can compel me to stay. What am I?

I’ll post the answer tomorrow, but feel free to message me if you’ve solved it!

In any case, it’s Wordle time!

Word analysis

Every day I check Wordle Bot to help analyze my guessing game. You can check your Wordles with Wordle Bot right here.

PEARL was once again a good starting guess. With 11 words to go, you’d think things could have gone better for me, especially since I already had so many boxes. I almost guessed STEAL next time, but I was worried I’d have too many possible answers if I didn’t try for more letters. BUNGS was an attempt to cut as many possible words as I could and it almost worked like a charm. With EASEL and STEAL left, I went with my first choice and . . . alas, I was wrong. EMASEL for the win!

Today’s Wordle Etymology

The word easel comes from the Dutch word donkeywhich means “donkey”. This term was borrowed in the 16th century, reflecting the idea of a donkey as a supporting beast of burden, akin to how an easel supports a canvas for painting. Over time, easel was adopted in English with the same meaning.
